Why does business feel so hard for some, but easy for others? The answer is simple: Your business is a mirror you can’t talk your way out of.
As a spiritual mentor, it is my belief that everyone has been assigned a challenge in this world to overcome as they develop into their true purpose. That’s why this advanced personal development program will rock your world.
For some people, that challenge may be parenthood. It could be a career, health journey, or overcoming some form of physical or emotional disability. Comparing your journey to someone else’s doesn’t take into consideration that you are likely on different personal and spiritual development paths. What seems natural to some seems that way because it’s not the medium through which they have chosen to develop.
If you’re anything like me, your personal and spiritual development path led you into entrepreneurship. This is where every belief about yourself will be challenged, you’ll be forced to show up as your best and highest self, and provide valuable services to others.
I can still picture the first invoice I was too scared to send.
I had done the work, read the books, got the certification, even the journaling. Not to mention, I’d spent years untangling the stories I inherited about money and worth and what I was allowed to want. I walked into entrepreneurship convinced I’d arrived as a more healed version of myself.
Then I sat with that invoice open for three days, quietly rewriting the number downward, and realized the healing had a whole layer I’d never touched. Because the business is the inner work. Not a distraction from it. Not the reward for finishing it. It is the most advanced, most personalized, most relentless personal development program you will ever enroll in. It also never hands you a certificate, because you never quite graduate.
Entrepreneur and speaker Jim Rohn built his entire philosophy on this idea. “Your level of success will seldom exceed your level of personal development,” he taught and in his essay on why personal development is critical to success, he put it even more plainly: to have more than you’ve got, become more than you are. Your business will not outgrow the person running it. It can’t. Which means every stage of building one is really a stage of becoming.
Personal development done in private is forgiving. You can journal your way to a breakthrough and feel genuinely changed by Tuesday. The cushion doesn’t push back. The workbook doesn’t text you to ask why the payment didn’t go through.
Business does, and it’s the part of your development that argues back.
It shows you exactly where your edges are, and it does it with numbers, which don’t flatter anyone. Your pricing is a conversation about worth. You’ll discover what you actually believe you’re worth the moment you have to say the number out loud and hold the silence after it. Your sales calls become a referendum on whether you believe it’s safe to receive. Your visibility through the posting and being seen runs straight into whatever you carry about judgment and belonging. And your relationship with cash flow will reveal, faster than any meditation, whether you’re operating from scarcity or trust.
You cannot affirmation your way past these. You can only meet them, in real time, with real money on the line. That is exactly what makes it work.
Stay in business long enough and you’ll notice the plateaus aren’t random.
The revenue stalls at a number that happens to sit just above what your family ever earned. The launch underperforms in precisely the way you quietly expected it to. You get busy, then sabotage the busy, then feel a little relieved by the quiet.
I had a client who said in 2025, “Sales have slowed down, but it’s normal. It’s always slow in the summers.”
I challenged her on this. This is what I do differently with my clients. When they are open, I challenge their assumptions about who they are and what they are capable of.
I reminded her that if she believes in her core that summer will always be slow, then she will always have slow summers. I asked if she was telling herself that in order to make herself feel better for her lack of marketing and outreach activity.
In 2026, we had another call and the message was totally different. This particular entrepreneur put herself out there, met new people, got in new rooms, and her summer season was the busiest she’s had in her business.
The ceiling isn’t in the business. It’s in the version of you currently running it. It means your growth and your business’s growth are the same project. You don’t have to choose between becoming who you want to be and building what you want to build. Every time you raise a rate, hold a boundary, recover from a slow month without spiraling, or let yourself be seen and survive it, you expand the size of the person who can hold what you’re building.
This is the reframe I want you to keep.
When the discomfort shows up — the fear before you publish, the shame after a refund request, the panic in a slow season — the instinct is to read it as evidence. Evidence that you’re not cut out for this. Evidence that you should have stayed where it was safe. It isn’t evidence. It’s the syllabus.
Researchers even have a name for the difference. Carol Dweck’s work on the growth mindset describes two ways of meeting a hard edge: as proof of a fixed limit, or as information about where to grow next. Harvard Business School Online uses almost exactly our example: the new entrepreneur who thinks, “I’ve never been good with math, I’m not cut out to run my own business,” versus the one who thinks, “I don’t have a finance background yet, but I can learn this.”
Same numbers. Same fear. Completely different outcome, decided entirely by which story you tell about the discomfort.
Marie Forleo built an entire body of work on the same conviction that everything is figureoutable. Not everything is easy or comfortable. But the problem in front of you is almost always a thing to be solved, not a verdict on whether you belong. A business will keep handing you the same lesson, in slightly harder forms, until you learn it and then it hands you a new one.
This is why I refuse to separate the mindset from the math.
You can hold the most beautiful money beliefs in the world, and if your pricing doesn’t cover your life, the belief collapses when the credit card is due. You can build a flawless spreadsheet and multi-platform social media strategy on the quiet assumption that you’re not allowed to charge what you need, and it will keep you small no matter how clean the formulas are.
Aligned Money Method™ is the place where the two finally meet. Where what you believe you’re worth and what you actually charge are the same number. Where your forecast and your nervous system tell the same story. Getting there is advanced personal development of the most practical kind, and your business is the only place it can truly happen.
When it’s hard, when the numbers expose something tender, when you meet a part of yourself you were sure you’d already healed, you’re not behind. You’re enrolled. You’re standing exactly where the work happens.
And it’s the best program you’ll ever do.
Because making money is only part of the equation. Keeping it—and growing it—is the next move.
